Post 18 Information & Progression Day
The Sixth Form Team do our best to prepare students for life beyond St George’s. The process begins in Year 12, as applications for Higher Education, apprenticeships or jobs are usually sent at the start of Year 13. In Year 12, students receive talks on Post 18 progression pathways and are expected to be proactive as a result. This is followed by the year 12 Progression Day and a careers fair in March, to help them make informed choices about their futures. All Year 12 students can request a career interview in the spring term from a specialist careers advisor. Parents are invited to a Post-18 Information evening in March, in advance of the applications process which commences in June of Year 12.
Year 12 students undertake work experience during Activities week at the beginning of July. Students then write their personal statements and, with input from various staff, begin to make applications for their chosen Post-18 pathway. Multiple pathway applications are encouraged.
The Sixth Form team share any information regarding preparation courses with those students who have been proactive to receive the information. Super-curricular activities or Post-18 opportunities are shared with students via the fortnightly bulletin and other adverts posted onto the Year 12 & 13 Google Classroom.
The UK University application process is managed via UCAS and all year 12 students begin this process in June. We request all students submit a UCAS application to ensure that options are available to them if they change their mind. Further information entered will be relevant for any type of application. If not applying to a university, students need to print off and keep a copy of their duly completed UCAS form which can then be used as the basis for any other application forms (e.g. job, apprenticeship, another course, gap year application). YC Herts also provides independent specialised advice for those wishing to follow “alternative” pathways and will interview students on request.
St. George's Super-curricular Google Site
Please find a link to the super-curricular Google site that we curate for students (mainly sixth form) for them to explore opportunities outside the classroom. This latest version is a bumper issue with apprenticeships, summer schools, webinars, open days, and lots more! We do encourage you to remind your sixth formers to have a good peruse through all the opportunities. Please note that the secure google site requires a St G's email address to access the link - students all have access once they have signed into Google with their school details.
