A boarding education is a vital enriching experience for boys and girls providing a sound basis for academic and personal development.

Boarding at St. George’s exists to supplement and support the excellent academic work and life of the School in a caring, Christian community. Young people are encouraged to develop a sense of responsibility, self-discipline as well as their individual talents and abilities. Boarding is also great fun; lifelong friends are made and opinions formed. It is great training for student life in Higher Education.

So far in my time at St George’s what has stayed with me and always will is the overwhelming sense of community developed from the strong house system, mixed year tutor bases and support throughout the school. The house events give you the opportunity to get involved in something, whether it’s art, drama, sport or any of the wide range of competitions. I think St George’s encourages a good balance between academic success and developing other talents and skills; helping us become competitive and all rounded social individuals.

I have taken part in many shows; not only has drama helped me perform but it has also improved my confidence to do things that I would have never done if it wasn’t for drama. Coming into St George’s, I had already done lots of drama in the past, so to be actually studying drama at school was a dream come true.

At the start of the year, you have the Whole School Play, which is for anyone who wants to join in. You then have Inter-House Drama where each of our four houses put on a performance which has students from all years taking part and is judged by professional actors. Finally, to end the year with a bang, you have the Lower School Play allowing students from year 7 to 9 to shine in their very own performance. Whilst all this is happening, you have drama clubs for the younger years to participate in and grow in confidence. I also happen to love studying drama at St George’s so much that I have decided to take it as one of my choices.

Leaving my primary school and coming to secondary school was a huge step up for me. Being the oldest of three, I was the first to experience the atmosphere of a senior school and have to take responsibilities into my own hands for once. I was very fortunate, as were many other students, when joining St George’s. This was because of the warm-hearted glow the students and staff in this school gave to me. Although coming from a local school where the majority of us came to St George’s, I very quickly became friends with students from other schools and even in some cases countries!

In my opinion, the strongest quality of my school, is the student services. Whether your problem is big, small, embarrassing or you simply need a shoulder to cry on, they will always be there to offer advice or help you through a tough situation.

George

I feel extremely lucky to have been at St George’s for the last 7 years and have participated in a wide range of sports over the course of my time at school, including rugby, basketball, athletics and tennis. The sporting environment that the PE department creates is motivating and friendly which allows for pupils of all sporting abilities to improve and everyone is encouraged to join in. I have created bonds with other pupils through helping with sports and made some great friends, especially through rugby.

I have had the privilege of going on two rugby tours whilst at St George’s, one in year 9 to Paris and most recently a trip to South Africa, which was a great opportunity for team bonding ahead of our rugby season. We had a fantastic rugby season, winning most of our matches against some high achieving sporting schools. The coaching we receive at St George’s has been excellent and the high standard has helped me develop into the player I am today, sport has become a big part of my life.
