Tapas, Gaudí & Great Memories: Barcelona 2026
Kate H writes: Last Wednesday, 33 year 10 arrived in Barcelona after an early flight for the start of our Spanish GCSE trip. Despite the tiredness, we enjoyed an action‑packed few days filled with activities—from meeting our pen pals and touring the breathtaking Sagrada Familia to eating churros and even making our own paella.
A highlight for me was visiting a local school, where we spoke with students our age, helping us improve our Spanish while they practised their English. We also explored Gaudí’s impressive architecture, visited science museums, toured the Camp Nou stadium site, and even met a capybara!
It was inspiring to use what we’ve learned in class to communicate in one of Spain’s native languages, boosting our confidence and motivation. The whole trip was amazing, and we are extremely grateful to the teachers, especially Miss Berriel‑Evora, for all their hard work in giving us this unforgettable opportunity.

It not only boosted my confidence speaking Spanish but also gave me a deeper understanding of the city’s rich history and culture. Among many highlights, the stunning architecture and the time spent exploring with friends stood out. The Sagrada Familia was unforgettable, and visiting the Barri Gòtic to see hidden Roman ruins was equally fascinating. We also visited Camp Nou which, even for someone who isn’t a big football fan, was impressive.
We had plenty of free time to discover the city—shopping along Las Ramblas, exploring the market, or visiting the Caixa Science Museum, complete with its indoor flooded rainforest. Throughout the trip, we were encouraged to speak Spanish whenever possible. Although challenging at first, I grew to enjoy it and appreciated everyone’s patience. Being understood in another language was incredibly motivating and has inspired me to keep learning.
