Celebrating Chinese New Year at St George’s
We are proud of the rich cultural diversity within our school, with 288 students speaking English as an additional language and an incredible 53 languages represented. This week, we’ve been celebrating Chinese New Year, which falls on Tuesday 17th and marks the start of the Year of the Horse—a particularly lucky year for those born in 1966, 1978, 1990, 2002 or 2014.
Our celebrations included vibrant displays, themed crafts and decorations, and a delicious Chinese feast prepared by our Catering Team. A huge thank you to the students who transformed the library with colourful lanterns, paper chains, horse decorations and handwritten New Year greetings. The space looks wonderfully bright and festive.
Our entrance display also features books on Chinese history and culture, along with information about zodiac signs and festival traditions, giving students the chance to explore the meaning behind this important celebration.
