ST GEORGES SCHOOL HARPENDEN
MEDIA RELEASE
JUNE 17TH 2011
14 YEAR OLD IS NATIONAL FINALIST CHAMP
‘CHAMP ON HER BEETROOT BURGER’
SAYS SAINSBURY’S !’
LIBERTY’S RECIPE MAKES VEGETARIAN MEALS ‘SEE RED’
Innovative Liberty Emeny of Harpenden a Year 8 pupil at the 1300 strong St George’s Secondary school has wooed judges for the Active Kids Get Cooking Competition with her Beetroot Burger.
Following classes in healthy eating in the school’s high tech food department, Liberty dreamt up a Beetroot Burger which has proved a great hit with her parents, friends and teachers.
Winning the England section of the national competition Liberty travels to London on the 29th June to be played of against finalists from Scotland, Northern Ireland, and Wales.
Heidi Brodie, Head of Food and a nationally recognised Leading Professional for Food Studies was thrilled with Liberty’s ideas.
“We had a really good short course on healthy food options and decide to recommend that pupils enter the competition as a further incentive. We love her idea and the finished product is so good. I am not surprised Sainsbury’s judges have picked this up.”
Headmaster Norman Hoare regretted that every time he had tried to get to taste this creation when its been made at school it disappears in tasting sessions, so was looking forward to the recipe coming out in the Sainsbury’s Cook Book when he could try to make it himself.
“Liberty continues a fine tradition of exciting ways of learning at this school and she has so far won £100 for the school and there is the chance of £400 if she is one of the UK winners. Some years ago we had a pupil in the final of the BBC Young Master Chef so I am not surprised that another pupil is hitting the headlines in the same field.”
