How time flies and here we are again in the autumn term of 2011 at St George’s and I have been working in the development office since 2008. Things have changed some what and I now have Lorraine Kyriacou working along side me.

Your response to our request for a donation over the last few years has been very encouraging and has enabled us to support several vital projects.

We ran a Summer Gifting Appeal to both parents and past Georgians and managed to raise £77,000, of which, £66,000 was donations and £11,000 in Gift Aid. So you can see it really does make a difference if everyone who is able to, ticks the gift aid box.

These funds enabled us to create a Sixth Form centre which includes a new study area equipped with 52 computers, a new servery, social centre, coffee bar and resource and office facilities. We also funded a music area for the 21st Century which includes two new large classrooms with 27 Apple Mac computers, electronic facilities to enable 32 pupils to partake in fully interactive lessons, a new Music Technology room, a much improved recording room, offices and two instrumental stores.

In 2011 we also gained funding from a Government scheme towards the refurbishment of two of our Science labs but we still have several labs in need of refurbishment and there will again be a shortfall in funds for this project.

So, what next? More computers are needed for the Humanities room which has been updated for Religious Studies and History, which highlights our constant need to keep up with the increasing pace of technology that our pupils need.
