ST GEORGE’S SCHOOL HARPENDEN

Monday 29th January 2012

PIPER PIPES IN THE HAGGIS

SCHOOL CATERERS BIG HIT WITH FIRST HAGGIS SUPPER IN 25 YEARS

PARENTS PARTY AWASH WITH SCOTTISH FAYRE AND FLAIR

School Chef Mark Towler was escorted through 120 guests at the Sun Lane’s first Burns Supper with Piper, parent Ros Cox. Followed by the authentic tribute to the Haggis and then the Selkirk Grace parents and fiends enjoyed a sumptuous meal of Scottish smoked salmon, haggis, neeps and tatties followed by shortbread and raspberries with a touch of Drambuie. More flavouring was added during the meal and various whiskeys were added to dishes or just enjoyed as accompaniments to the meal. Later Scottish dancing and a raffle stocked with gifts from north o’ the border rounded of the evening.

Headmaster Norman Hoare paid tribute to the incredible team of parents who ran the event on behalf of the PSA.

“It was a unique evening for us and it is bound to be in great demand again because it was so successful. Thanks to guests and the organising team – led by Mrs Julia Pink – lots of money bas raised and glasses were filled and raised continuously during the evening. A highlight besides the most delicious meal provided by our catering staff was the Scottish dancing which led by professional callers enabled us to learn the steps the correct way, although by late into the evening it had become more of a challenge even though we had lost some of our inhibitions !”
