BOSTON BOUND
FIVE WEEK IN ‘SUMMERTIME’ SETTING
WILL ‘THE GOING BE EASY’ FOR ST GEORGE’S STAR JAZZ PLAYER ?
17 YEAR OLD WINS PRESTIGIOUS SCHOLARSHIP TO STUDY IN USA THIS JULY
Cassie Kinoshi, a sixth former at the 1280 strong St George’s School in Sun Lane, Harpenden looks forward to 5 weeks in Boston USA having won an all expenses paid scholarship to the Berklee Summer Performance Programme.
Cassie started piano at the age of 6 beginning the Clarinet in Year 4, when she was 9. Then at secondary school when she was 13 she took up the saxophone her main love and encouraged by her Uncle (a lawyer and jazz musician) she has excelled with the instrument.
She practices for at least an hour a day and so far has played in the National Youth Jazz Orchestra and Herts. County Wind Band. Being in all the school concerts Cassie has revelled in the chances to perform live at St George’s.
This school is really great as we have so many opportunities to give shows and concerts. It s important to gain this confidence and our audiences give good feed back as well and my music teachers who are preparing me for A level.
Headmaster Norman Hoare praised her effort and ambition. Cassie is amongst a number of our outstanding players and another one who sees the huge potential of music technology, especially videogame composing and song writing which she wants to do, as a satisfying and I am sure lucrative career. At the moment we just enjoy her wonderful playing with the school Jazz Band, and look forward to her hearing of her experience when she comes back in September from Boston. I suspect she will be applying to Berklee College for the next three years of her promising music career but in the meantime we have another year of her beautiful playing to enjoy. |
